Walk Down Memory Lane In Monochrome

While nothing worth putting up in the galleries, I thought it might be fun to share these few black and white photos with my readers and viewers.  These images are what was produced during one summer school quite a few years back.  Excuse the dust, the scratches and the other ugliness.  Perhaps I'm posting these for your viewing pleasure... and perhaps I'm doing it for my own.  Either way, enjoy them for what they are worth, a youth's attempt at art.  The first image happens to be none other than my own father, a member of a band, a well respected professor and one hell of a guitar soloist.  Even with slight arthritis and other little troubles here and there thanks to age, he can still jam well on his guitar.

This second is courtesy of the Saskatoon Fire Department and in part thanks to my friend Kerry who arranged a small meet with some of the local heroes.  These men and women put their lives on the line to save small cats in trees along with million dollar housing units.  Hats off to them and great respect going out to them due to the nature of the job.

During the summer months, it is quite common to find a group of three or four young men shooting in a large field not far from the town of Blaine Lake somewhere in mid-Northern Saskatchewan.  One of them is a good friend, Colin who is by far the best shot I know.  What is it about being left-handed that helps to lend itself to being a marksman?  For those curious, this image has not been reversed.

Airsoft, It's Whats For Dinner

Since I'm lazy, here's a nice copy and paste from Wikipedia for all of you to enjoy.  Hopefully this will enlighten you on just what airsoft is all about.  If not, well there's not much more I can do other than say "Google".

Airsoft is a sport which uses replica firearms to shoot small diameter plastic pellets. Common uses for airsoft are competitive gaming (similar to paintball), military simulations, target shooting, military training, and recreation. While similar in operation to BB guns, airsoft guns use lightweight (usually) plastic projectiles (BBs) 6mm (or 8mm) in diameter instead of metallic 4.5mm BBs. Airsoft guns also typically have a muzzle velocity of less than 180 m/s (600 ft/s), compared to a BB gun which may have a muzzle velocity of 365 m/s (1200 ft/s) or more. The combination of the lighter BB projectile, with greater surface area and the reduced muzzle velocity means that airsoft is generally considered safe when used in a controlled environment and with safety equipment like protective eyewear.

Airsoft games vary greatly in style and composition depending on location, budget, and the number of participants. However, they often range from short-term skirmishes and organized scenarios to military simulations and historical reenactments. Gaming with combat situations on a mock battlefield mainly involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the set objectives. Participants typically use varying types of airsoft weaponry along with either real or replica military gear and uniforms.

Airsoft? What's that?

What's airsoft?  It sounds kind of nice and fluffy, like something the feeling of a sleepy puppy yawning onto your face, gently moving the air around you.  Yea, that sounds pretty nice doesn't it?  Maybe airsoft is even something akin to air after going through a purifier.

I guess I'll leave you with a little teaser of upcoming posts regarding this thing we call 'airsoft'.  If you say 'airsoft', it's correct.  If you say 'soft air', then you are scorned.

Random Nudity

If there's one thing that I've learned while living in Japan, it's that nudity on the streets is not only accepted but almost encouraged in some instances.  Here we can see Hachika posing topless for a (rather old) calendar that's hanging outside of a store front in Asakusa.  "BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" Well, children here don't seem to care, young teenagers don't flock to this store-front to gawk at the nipples poking out in print and soccer-mom archtypes aren't burning their bras in protest to this image that some in spoiled North American might consider degradation of the female form.

No, none of those problems are taking place.  Why?  Why should they?  Why should the Japanese public be angered or outraged by this?

Post your thoughts on either side of the fence, what do you think?

It's Been A While

As you can see, there have been some grand re-inventions by way of... TECHNOLOGY!  These re-inventions are thanks to the powers of the internet.  And I'm just rambling as I don't have a heck of a lot else to say, but I thought it's about time to do an update of SOME form.

Along with the new samples of past photo work from Pozland Photography via the main page, we have also began including pricing schemes to those who are interested.  Keep a lookout to the main page and sub-galleries for new updates and events that have been taking place in and around Tokyo.

For now, some flowers and plants....  who doesn't love flowers and ... plants?
